The SPB175 is a refreshing take on the Seiko Sumo series. With the light grey dial, cool blue second hand and black bezel it is a an fantastic color combination. The Seiko Sumo is a relatively new design in the legendry Seiko dive watch catalog, but is already a fan favorite. The reason the nickname sumo came to be really isn't known, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that this is an all round great Seiko watch. The Ice Diver series celebrates adventure and shows that their watches can stand the harshest environments.

MOVEMENT:
The heart of any watch is the movement. While a watch might look awesome, it is the movement that tells us if it is a great watch. Seiko is one of the largest vertically integrated watch companies. They make quality affordable watches all the way to the high end Grand Seiko watches. At the heart of the SPB175 is the Seiko movement the Caliber 6R35. The fantastic part of the 6R35 is that it has a 70 hour power reserve. Most automatic watches only go up to 40 hours and if you forget to wear your watch for a day or two you will have to reset it. The 70 hours gives you an extra day.

WATER RESISTANCE:
The Seiko Sumo watches are truly dive watches. A lot of companies have watches that claim to be 200 meters and look like dive watches. They do not hold up. The Seiko Sumo SPB175 is a true dive watch. The watch follows ISO standards.
200 meters (660 feet), follows ISO standards and is suitable for scuba diving.
The Verdict:
The SPB175 is has a clean dial and is easy to ready. The Seiko Sumo has the classic dive look but made unique with the wide case and thick numbers on the dial. The Sumo is a step above the mainstays like the Seiko Turtle and Samurai. It is a great overall watch to get you started in the Seiko Luxe Prospex watches.
