The 10 Best Jewelry Looks From The Golden Globes
The 10 Best Jewelry Looks From The Golden Globes
Last night’s Golden Globes show means awards season is finally in full swing, and the stars didn’t disappoint when it came to wearing ogle-worthy jewelry. A few actresses were the breakout stars in the jewelry category and we’re counting them down right here:
10: Cate Blanchett
If Cate Blanchett never appears in another movie, mini series or community dinner theater production ever again she’s still secured a place as a Hollywood legend. Her sometimes avant-garde fashion choices reflect that confidence and usually get raves. The pastel, fringed Givenchy she wore to the Golden Globes was one of the night’s most divisive dress choices (the fringe came across as too Grand Ole Opry—or Miss Havisham—for some tastes) but it was impossible to find fault with how well her Tiffany jewelry paired with the look. Delicate pearl, diamond and platinum earrings dating from 1915 and a diamond and platinum cuff that almost exactly matched its embroidered pattern complemented the frilly frock.
9. Emmy Rossum
A few years back most actresses would have paired a strapless column with a tame diamond riviere necklace and called it a day. That approach went out the window at this year’s Golden Globes. Emmy Rossum led a brigade of stars who wore necklaces that demanded attention. The asymmetrical intersecting lines of her white gold and diamond Van Cleef & Arpels necklace give the piece plenty of drama without being fussy.
8. Olivia Palermo
We’re not exactly sure why socialite Olivia Palermo was at the Golden Globes but we’re happy she made an appearance, if only to take her David Webb necklace for a spin. It’s a refreshing change of pace to see a serious piece of yellow gold jewelry at a major awards show, and she shows how to wear a substantial necklace in a youthful way: everything from her hair to the silhouette of her dress was clean and simple.
7. Bryce Dallas Howard
Colorful earrings were another one of the night’s big jewelry trends and Bryce Dallas Howard’s were one of the top pairs. Fire opal drops from Irene Neuwirth brought out the best in the redhead’s coloring. She gets extra points for successfully matching the orangey earrings with a blue dress—a not-so-obvious choice.
6. Zendaya
Zendaya is still a teenager but she’s already mastered the red carpet jewelry game. Her Yoko London pearl and diamond earrings look polished and relaxed with long, loose hair and a plunging neckline, and she avoids the pitfalls of being too perfectly matchy-matchy by adding a garnet Lydia Courteille ring to the mix.
5. Olivia Wilde
If Studio 54 were still around, Olivia Wilde would be able to stroll right on over in her circa 1975 Bulgari necklace in gold with Roman imperial silver coins and rubellite ring. Wilde makes the list for dispelling any notion that fine jewelry has to be stuffy. She looks perfectly ready to dance all night.
4. Jennifer Lawrence
It’s a tricky thing to pull off a high neckline with a diamond necklace. JLaw nailed it. A Chopard bib set with more than 156 carats of diamonds frames her face and softens the lines of her architectural Dior dress.
3. Taraji P Henson
The Empire star has become a presence to watch for at Hollywood’s big parties because she makes a huge impact with minimalist looks. This time around, Kimberly McDonald for Gemfields earrings are all it takes to elevate her strapless white Stella McCartney dress to the style stratosphere. Suspended on long strands of diamonds, their emerald drops were in constant, mesmerizing motion during the actress’ acceptance speech.
2. Lady Gaga
Singer and (now) actress Lady Gaga looked like a contemporary version of Sargent’s Portrait of Madame X in her curvaceous Atelier Versace gown with Neil Lane platinum and diamond earrings and stacked bracelets. Retro inspirations get a bad rap because they tend to be overdone at awards shows, but Gaga shows how effective they can be when they’re done right.
1. Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez touched on a lot of the night’s jewelry trends without looking overdone. Her yellow diamond earrings and ring tapped into the popularity of colored stones and it was impossible to miss her diamond necklaces. Together, her Harry Winston jewelry and Giambattista Valli dress look sexy and elegant and cool, which is more than a lot to ask for.
