A new titanium series for Astron GPS Solar with our most advanced ever caliber
Since 2012, Seiko Astron has led the world in GPS Solar technology. Today, the Astron GPS Solar collection includes a wide range of styles, designs and calibers, all of which offer atomic-clock precision and exceptional ease of use. By connecting to the GPS network, every Astron watch adjusts at the touch of a button to your time zone* and, by taking all the energy it needs from light alone, never needs a battery change.
- If there are changes in the region / time zone / DST, manual selection may be required.
In 2019, a new design was released which paid homage to the original 1969 Quartz Astron with its curved silhouette case, wide case lugs and thin bezel. It was powered by Seiko’s most advanced and slimmest GPS Solar caliber, 5X53 Dual-Time.
Today, this 5X53 collection is expanded with a new series of four watches with cases and bracelets in titanium, the first of which has an exquisite green dial and is offered as a limited edition. It will be available from June 2020 at Seiko Boutiques and selected retailers worldwide while the other three will join the permanent Astron collection a month later.
Thanks to the light, robust and scratch resistant nature of titanium which delivers enhanced comfort on the wrist and the watches’ 20 bar water resistance, the new series is perfect for every type of lifestyle and situation. When time zone adjustment is required, all it takes is a simple push of a single button and the hands move faster than ever to the exact local time including Daylight Saving Time*, thanks to the system that moves each hand independently. The wearer is also able to change the main time display instantly from home to local time and vice versa. In addition, it connects up to twice a day to the GPS network to maintain its precision** anywhere in the world. So, in terms of both design and function, this new titanium series is easy to wear and to enjoy, day or night, at home or abroad, in the office or on the beach.
- If the time zone adjustment is successful, the watch will display local Daylight Saving Time wherever this is in operation. (This does not apply when a time zone is selected manually)
- When the dial detects sunlight, the watch connects to the GPS satellite network and adjusts automatically to the correct time. If the watch is hidden from light, it remembers the time of its last successful manual connection and attempts to receive the GPS signal again at that same time.
The creation with the black case utilizes a matte-finished dial with a unique pattern, giving this creation a unique sports feel. The wide, black hour markers hold sufficient LumiBrite to maintain high legibility even in darkness.
The green dial version features also has a green ceramic bezel. The gold accent of the design adds a special elegance to the watch’s overall sport character. It is offered as a limited edition of 2,000.
