July 01, 2015 FUN 4TH OF JULY FACTS Independence Day wasn't an official holiday until 1941. July 4th is the day the 13 colonies adopted and voted for the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence was drafted by Thomas Jefferson. The first celebrations of Independence day often included reading from the Declaration of Independence Three US Presidents have died on the 4th of July. Even though Independence day was not a federal holiday, it has always been celebrated from 1776. Patriotism for Independence day grew after the War of 1812. FLORIDA KEYS ON THE 4TH OF JULY One of the busier holidays in the Florida Keys is the 4th of July.  Why?  Beautiful water, warm weather and plenty of fireworks.  Yup, if you are in the Keys for the 4th consider yourself lucky.  Well what can you do ?  Here is a little bit of what's going on.
