Larimar, also known as Stefilia's stone, is a rare Blue Pectolite that is only found in the Dominican Republic. The natives, who believed the stone came from the sea, called the gem "Blue Stone". Larimar was thought lost until a local man discovered a few pieces on a beach in 1974. From a mountain range upstream, these stones were washed to the sea and naturally polished by the Bahoruco River.
The word Larimar is a portmanteau of "Larissa," the name of the local man's daughter, and "mar," the Spanish word for sea. Larimar is now known as the Gemstone of the Caribbean.
When you wear Larimar, you carry a piece of the ocean with you.
